Open Question: What do you think of my characters' names?

29 July 2010, 6:24 pm

Hey. So, I'm writing a story that takes place in 1692 during the Salem Witch Trials and in Manchester, Essex, Massachusetts. Here are the names of my most important characters, and I'd really love to hear your opinions. Emma Jane Evans [16 yrs/17 yrs] (Main character. In the book, her birthday passes, which is why I have two ages.) Courtland [Ellwood, 18 yrs] (In the story, he's kind of a lost child, so nobody actually knows his last name. However, I, the author, do(:) Roddric Cronan Evans [41 yrs] (Emma's father. Cronan was a popular Celtic name, and his mother was from Ireland.) Katrina Jane Evans (Emma's mother, but she is already dead when the book begins )':) Mrs. Lorraina Wickstrom [De Lorge, 55 yrs] (French woman who runs a tavern with her husband. She's sort of a motherly figure and influence on Emma.) Mr. Arthur Blaine-Linley Wickstrom [56 yrs] (Lorraina's husband.) Officer Nathaniel James Monroe [Officer Monroe, 48yrs] (Manchester's sheriff and good friends with Arthur Wickstrom.) So, there you have it.(; This story is different. Though it takes place during the Witch Trials, it's a not very big part of the book. That is why my characters are fictional, and not the real people from that time. If you do not favor or agree with a certain name, please tell me. Suggestions are also welcome, if you like. Of course, most of the character's middle names will not be in the actual book. However, I enjoy getting close to my characters and knowing each and every detail about them. Thank you and much appreciated!!(:... Read More »
